Why I Do What I Do…
My curiosity about people and sensitivity to the world around me drew me to psychotherapy.
This, combined with my educational background and clinical experience, allows me to make a positive impact in my clients’ lives.
I love being a therapist and I look forward to connecting with you.
On a personal note...
Besides being a therapist, I find joy in cooking, snowboarding, live music, and being in nature. I’m a white, gay, woman and I use intersectional feminist and social justice perspectives in work and everyday life.
Becoming a therapist
After receiving my BA in Psychology and Gender/Feminist Studies from Pitzer College in Southern California, I experienced a devastating loss.
I felt stuck, directionless, and disconnected. All of the grief, sadness, and anxiety manifested into overwhelming physical symptoms. I found solace in body work, which inspired me to learn the modality myself.
While working with clients in various healing settings during my career as a massage therapist, I witnessed the physical toll that stress and trauma can have on our bodies, as well as the emotional experience of living with chronic pain and discomfort.
Wanting to further my understanding of this mind-body connection, I entered the field of somatic psychotherapy as a student and client, and eventually as a therapist.
Experience
My educational and clinical experience
Education
I studied Counseling Psychology with a Concentration in Somatic Psychotherapy at California Institute of Integral Studies in San Francisco, and received my MA in 2018.
While in graduate school, I completed my clinical training as a mental health counselor at a large public high school.
Supervision + Training
During my time as a trainee and an Associate MFT, I received robust clinical training and supervision in the community mental health sector of the San Francisco Bay Area.
Trainings and supervision were trauma-informed and specific to my clientele with diverse backgrounds, family cultures, perspectives, and identities.
Clinical Work
My clinical work has focused primarily on teens, transitional age youth, and families to explore and attune to varying challenges, traumas, and relationship dynamics.
I have worked in school and community agency settings alongside other fantastic therapists, social workers, educators, and families, deepening my skills and capacity as a therapist.
